The project provides a new bungalow for two self contained flats to rent out, in support of the charity work of Belarusian Charitable Trust. The site is triangular in shape with a very narrow front in a leafy conservation area full of Victorian suburban villas, many of which were once designed by George Truefitt, the co-founder of the Architectural Association.

The design of the new building was driven by the requirement to preserve the large amenity space at the rear for the use of the community, and the presence of a protected tree on site. No planning application, for any new build developments, has been successful on the plot in the last three decades. The design adopts a sympathetic approach referencing the materials found in the vicinity, and Truefitt’s eccentric architecture embodying modernist sensitivities.
